Does Jiddu Krishnamurti really deserve the veneration and respect he is given ? This article examines his teachings in some depth, with a careful selection of examples. One of the main problems westerners have with Eastern gurus is that — not having a long tradition of spiritual exploration of our own — we don’t know how to assess a guru’s claims, which leaves us vulnerable to teachings which may or may not make sense. This is why it is so important to be deeply sceptical of pronouncements which, at the level of our everyday discourse, don’t come near to adding up.
