Essentially 'spirituality' is wholly concerned with resolving the unknowingness at the core of our human existential beinghood. In other words, spirituality is wholly concerned with whatever it takes for us to enlighten ourselves as to the ultimate meaning & purpose of our existence itself. This also explains what enlightenment means as a spiritual concept. All other considerations are irrelevant & trivial. Morality is a relative affair and changes from time to time; moral transformation is no more an indication of spiritual insight than is a bank balance; and anyway, all religious figures are, given time, invariably shown to be - in an everyday sense - corrupt, venal, and often utterly despicable - just follow the news. By their fruits in the media shall ye know them. Of course one should try one's best, but 'goodness' is relative and of no import whatsoever when it comes to spiritual insight. Manifest 'goodness' often only indicates a certain suspicious cunning.
'Empathy' is an astonishingly vague term which, like 'love' doesn't describe anything at all, except perhaps poetically. It's also deeply subjective & highly sentimental. For example; is a strict, demanding, exacting coach/ teacher/mentor less desirable than an 'empathic' one? If one takes something seriously, 'empathy' is a worthless conception, as well as being oddly unnecessary. Helpful/unhelpful is a far more practical binary. When would 'empathy' come into its own? It can't - it's a nothing term.
