Lucid awareness cannot be lost or switched off, in the same way that it is not possible to 'stop thinking' - thinking goes on all the time, whether we want it to, or not.

Another way to look at any supposed 'gap' in awareness (not possible) - you're in a basement room & someone turns the light out for 15 seconds and then back on again - did you lose consciousness in the blackout? Sensory deprivation is not 'loss of awareness'.

Questions of ego & autonomy & controlling experience are not in play at an ontologically elemental level; there is simply the 'experience of experience'. 'Who' and 'what' and 'why' come later.
