Unfortunately altered states don’t present us with any insights beyond the fact that our normal everyday consciousness is capable of infinite alteration; once one grasps that fact, there’s nowhere else to go. After a while, and even with an ‘ultimate union with the divine’, it all gets to be boring and predictable.
